Slot – The NFL’s High-Risk High-Reward Position

Slot is a position in the NFL that requires a lot of coordination between quarterback and receiver. It is a very high-risk/high-reward position that can make or break a team’s success. A great example of a team that uses the slot well is the Kansas City Chiefs. They have several talented players that thrive in the slot, including Tyreek Hill (56 receptions, 831 yards, and 9 touchdowns), Cole Beasley (80 receptions, 960 yards, and 13 touchdowns), and Juju Smith-Schuster (85 receptions, 738 yards, and 11 touchdowns).

Because of where they line up on the field and their pre-snap motion, the Slot receiver is typically much quicker than outside wide receivers. They are likely to have top-notch route running skills as well, since they’ll be required to master just about every passing route imaginable. Additionally, Slot receivers must be able to block. They are a critical cog in the blocking wheel for most run plays, picking up blitzes from linebackers and secondary players to provide protection for running backs.

Most slot games will have a pay table that shows all of the symbols that can be landed and how much they’ll pay out if you land three or more. Some will also highlight any special symbols, like Scatters or Bonus, and describe how they work. Typically, you’ll find the pay table on the game’s information page or in its help menu. However, if you can’t locate it, a quick Google search of the game name and “payout percentage” or “return to player” should suffice.
